Officially recognised for their years of service 

We are thrilled to announce that two of our most valued Service Members have been honoured as Life Members of RSL Victoria.

LESLIE SHARD

Les Shard commenced National Service Training with the Australian Army in April, 1956. He joined the Royal Australian Navy in April, 1958 and was discharged after three years service due to Illness.

He has been Volunteering with the Shepparton RSL Sub-Branch for 18 years, with his main activities being an Appeals Volunteer, Welfare and Charity Sub-Committee Member and Hospital Visitor.

His Appeals assistance over nearly two decades has been nothing short of outstanding, selling just about every day during the Anzac and Remembrance Day Appeal periods, including weekends at our local Bunnings Store. He also assists the Appeals Director by delivering boxes to factories, schools and shops to sell, as well as assisting with filling boxes. He has also sold badges prior to the Dawn and 11am Service on Anzac

Les has been on the Welfare Sub-Committee for many years and has been a regular Hospital Visitor and a great contributor to the welfare of our Veterans.

He has been a member of the National Servicemen’s Association of Australia, Shepparton Sub-Branch for the past 17 years including 2 years as Treasurer.

Les is a highly regarded Member of the Shepparton RSL Sub-Branch by the Committee, Members and Staff.

 

PETER MARTIN   RFD, ED

When retiring with the rank of Captain in 1986, Peter Martin was awarded the Reserve Force Decoration (Officers Medal) for 25 years service with the Australian Army Reserve. He was also awarded the Efficiency Decoration in 1970.

Peter was elected to the Shepparton RSL Sub-Branch Committee in 2011 and took on the role of Secretary in 2012. He still holds that position.

His knowledge of Military procedure is exceptional and is put to good use when hosting Memorial events. He has stood on various Community Committees representing the Sub-Branch over the past ten years.

In relation to his Secretarial duties, Peter has been outstanding, always prepared to give up his time on short notice in the best interests of the Sub-Branch. His efficiency and knowledge of the Rules (both Branch and Sub-Branch) is exceptional and he is always prepared to assist when asked.

He is a highly regarded Member of the Shepparton RSL Sub-Branch by both the Members and Staff.

He has represented the Sub-Branch in all of the years he has been Secretary at the RSL Victoria State Conference.
